The 30-year-old is holding a charity auction of his football kit, including boots and gloves, on Twitter to raise money for the homeless.
Brown had to organise the fundraiser quickly, as he only had his contract terminated by mutual consent earlier this week.
But the social media addict was determined to use his Twitter popularity to raise money for those less fortunate.
He said: "The idea came to me: why not put my kit up for auction and see how much I can raise?"
Brown, who has yet to decide how the money will be distributed, explained where the idea came from.
"I was walking along Union Street at Christmas and my daughter pointed to a homeless person and asked if we could give them some food. So we went into McDonald's and bought some takeaway stuff and handed it over.
"It wasn't a big deal, but I thought it was the right thing to do. Sometimes, footballers never actually meet the public in the city where they are living and playing. But, if people have problems, and you can do something to help, why not?"
