ABERDEEN have expressed an interest in Jomo Cosmos midfielder Chris Katongo, says the South African club's chairman.

The 23-year-old Zambia international played in Sunday's pre-season friendly with the Dons as part of their tour of South Africa.

Katongo, who featured in this year's African Cup of Nations, was the leading scorer for the Cosmos last season and has previously had a trial at Plymouth Argyle.

He should be able to gain a UK work permit as he is a regular for his international side.

Jomo Sono said: "Chris has played exceptionally well and Rangers and Aberdeen have shown interest in him.

"We won't stand in his way. I feel he has to move and he deserves it."

Meanwhile, the Dons' trip to meet Nelson Mandela has been postponed until later this week.
