ABERDEEN boss Jimmy Calderwood has taken French defender Othmane Hamama on trial.

The 23-year-old left-back, who is with French second division side Clermont trained with the Dons this morning and is set to play in Sunday's friendly at Elgin.

Hamama, who has played for Toulouse and Cannes, told the Evening Express: "I'm delighted Aberdeen have given me this opportunity.

"My club is allowing me to leave and I've had offers from other clubs in France.

"But I want to test myself in another country and hope it will be in Scotland with Aberdeen."

Calderwood added: "A contact in France tipped me off that he was available.

"I'm away until Sunday, so Jimmy Nicholl will take a close look at the lad in training over the next couple of days.

"If he does okay we will give him a run at Elgin on Sunday then take things from there."
