The 27-year-old was released from Blackburn Rovers during the summer after making just eight appearances in his four year spell at the club.

Periods on loan at Norwich City, Barnsley and Willem II failed attract any permanent offers, so Rigters will now attempt to earn a contract at Pittodrie.

Rigters started his career in Holland with Heerenveen, moving to Dordrecht and then NAC Breda before heading to Blackburn.

The forward impressed in the 2007 European Under-21 Championships, where he won the Golden Boot award for his four goals in the tournament.

And it is this form that Brown will be looking to resurrect as he desperately searches for goals following Aberdeen's blank start to the season.
