Hughes To Return Soon For Dons?

Aberdeen midfielder Hughes has been out for a month with ankle and knee injuries but is back in training and is pushing to be fit for the weekend's SPL fixture.

If he were to fail to make that deadline, he should be fit in time to face his former club Motherwell in next week’s Scottish Cup replay at Fir Park on Tuesday.

With 10 players - including starlet Ryan Fraser - missing from the Dons squad due to injury or loan, it would be a timely return for Hughes - particularly as it it the Reds' midfield that has been worst hit.

And with the games coming thick and fast as Aberdeen compete for both league and cup honours, manager Craig Brown is keen to get the playmaker back in his side.

He said: “The injury came at a bad time because he was showing what he is capable of.

“When he joined in January he hadn’t played much football but he had an excellent pre-season and was playing at the standard he reached a few years ago.

“He is not too far off being available and it will be good to have him back.”
