Milne Rules Out Sevco Invite To New SPL

That means that Newco Sevco The Rangers International or whatever they're called this week would not be allowed to parachute into the top flight, as some Scottish supporters have feared.

The plans tabled by the SPL involve creating a two-league top tier with 12 teams in each, which would split into three leagues of 8 after two rounds of fixtures.

The plans were unanimously agreed by the current SPL clubs, and could be in place for the start of next season.

But Aberdeen chairman Milne moved to quash any fears that the new system would be set up to accommodate Charlie Green's sideshow.

He said: "The [second league] of 12 would be made up of the 10 teams from Division One and the two top teams from Division Two. No one would be invited into the league."

Milne added: "The two 12s splitting into the three 8s half way through the season provides the opportunity to deliver a lot more competitive games right through the whole season.

"We want more clubs who are involved in meaningful games from the start of the season right through to the finish. That is the thing that is going to help us bring more people back."
