Peterhead 1 Aberdeen XI 4

ABERDEEN beat Peterhead 4-1 at Balmoor last night.

Darren Mackie scored a second-half brace, with fans favourites Stevie Crawford and Gary Dempsey grabbing the other two. Peterhead's goal came from Dons defender Zander Diamond.

Here are the thoughts of Stand Free messageboard regular suspect_device, who was at the game:

The first goal was set up after a nice run from Foster who passed unselfishly to Crawford when he was one on one with the keeper. Another way to look at it was that he didn't have the confidence to take the keeper on and score himself.

The second goal was a nice cross from the right which Dempsey headed in but he was unmarked and you have to fault the Peterhead defence.

Diamond deflected into his own net as I said in a first half that we dominated. OK, if he hadn't got a foot to it, the Peterhead striker would probably have scored but he's getting a bad habit of doing daft things in match.

Half time and after a wee trip to the bar (why can't all football matches be like that?) I sat back to watch us struggle to put any sort of passing together while at the same time easily dealing with anything Peterhead had up front.

Mackie and Anderson came on for Dempsey and Stewart and we looked a bit better up front. Also Touzani was pushed into a holdin midfield role and loooked comfortable enough.

Nice goal from Mackie for the third which was just ball knocked over the top whic he nodded on and finished well with a first time shot. A bit like Stewart's goal against Celtic at Parkhead in the 3-2 game.

The fourth goal Mackie shot straight at the keeper when he should have put it to either side but was alert enough to get the rebound in.

Hart was taken off for Considine late on but I don't think it was because of any injury.

Severin and Lovell were missing from the line ups which is a bit of a worry but the team got off to a decent enough start tonight. Only black marks I would give are to Maguire and Diamond. Nothing went right for Maguire and Diamond got the goal Peterhead. Mackie looked good when he came on.

Team was:

Langfield
Hart Touzani Diamond Byrne
Foster Nicholson Dempsey Maguire
Stewart Crawford

All in all, a satisfactory result against quite weak opposition but nothing to set the heather on fire. It's just nice to watch proper football instead of this rubbish I've been watching in the World Cup.
