ABERDEEN have been given a boost in the build-up to the start of the new season with the news that Chris Clark has signed a two-year contract extension.

The pacey winger penned the deal that will tie him to the club until 2009 but immediately turned his attention to Saturday's vital clash with Hibernian.

Clark told RedWeb: "I am looking forward to the season ahead and having my contract done quickly allows me to focus on doing well for the club.

"The lads are all full of confidence going into this season and we are looking forward to Saturday's game."

25-year-old Clark has had to show super powers to play under Jimmy Calderwood, being forced to fill in a number of positions all over the pitch.

He even fought for the Red cause while carrying an injury in the last few weeks of the season.

But the Aberdeen-born lad never complained and has earned the respect of the support with his ability to roll up his sleeves and graft wherever the is posted on the pitch.

Jimmy Calderwood said: "It's great news for the club that Chris has signed for the next two years as he has been a fantastic player for us over the last two seasons.

"He is quick, has two good feet and can play in a number of positions and I am delighted he is staying longer."

Clark would surely be reaching maturity if played in his strongest position of left-midfield, and he will be desperate to play in his favoured role and prove himself in the coming seasons with the Dons.
