No Pubs In Loirston? No Problem.

AN ABERDEEN pub owner has moved to quell fears from Dons fans, including Aberdeen-Mad's very own 'Top Lad' The Red Avenger, about the move to an out-of-town stadium.

Pittodrie Bar landlord Alex McKenzie has mooted a 'pint-and-ride' service to the new Dons stadium, wherever it ends up.

And Alex is keen to keep loyal punters at his King Street howff from uprooting to somewhere closer to the Dons new home, thought to be Loirston Loch near Cove.

He said: "I've got a hardcore of customers - the Pittodrie Bar has been here for more than 100 years.

"Wherever the stadium goes I would probably lay on buses to get them there."

Unless some soulless family bistro is dumped near the stadium, Dons fans will have to make do with the dregs from loch fishers' Tennent's tins.

Aberdeen-Mad contributer The Red Avenger said yesterday: "It's a misconception that going to the fitba is just about the 90 minutes - it's nae. It's the entire day and the socialising and drinking that goes with it.

"We could have the most beautiful state of the art ground in the world but without the supporting network of howffs, bars and lounges, then the match day experience becomes cold and impersonal."

And Alex added: "It's going to be ridiculous, there's just nothing there."

Proposals to build a 22,000-seater arena are to go before city council officials tomorrow.

And fans are already thought to be starting a campaign to have the stadium named 'The Northern Lights'.
