The Dons Need Us Now

ABERDEEN-MAD is calling upon all Dons fans to back the club in the battle against relegation.

There have been plenty of rallying calls on the Aberdeen-Mad messageboard - from InversneckieDob, Thesheep, donsdaft, mastrick1960 and donsviking amongst others - so let's put the anger on hold at least until the season's over and band together to help our club get out of this predicament.

Last season we helped drive the club on to a European place, this season is arguably more important - we need to use the undoubted energy that can be generated from the stands to lift the players.

The club is doing its bit with price cuts and promotions - season ticket holders can bring a friend for free on Saturday - so let's do our bit too.

As the SPL enters its 'group stages', we've ended up in the bottom half with three home games to escape the spiralling draw of the relegation battle.

Two home wins would see the Reds escape the drop, and that must start with one against bottom club Falkirk at Pittodrie on Saturday.

With a big, noisy home support for the run-in, we can recreate the atmosphere of recent seasons' games such as Copenhagen, Bayern, the Celtic 4-2 and 4-4, and the 'last day' Rangers games which drove our lads on and stunned the opposition into submission.

But it's easy to support a winning team and create a highly-charged atmosphere against other big teams - it is much harder to do it when our struggling players are up against small clubs who take up a couple of hundred away fans - BUT WE MUST TRY.

There's no point in sitting on our hands waiting for the inevitable to happen so we can boo the players - that's not what being a football supporter is about. Let's put any disappointments behind us temporarily and join together in the stands to urge the Dons away from the spectre of relegation - and have some fun in the process.

The new fans group that came into being earlier this year have asked the old Ultra's to break out the flags etc. and they have agreed - just red and white stuff, no Ultra's slogans, so no divisiveness - all for one.

The idea is that like-minded fans will congregate in the South Stand, sections X and Y, and we are asking that everyone in the Dick Donald please organise some bunching together and noise making.

Lets make Pittodrie rock on Saturday.
