ABERDEEN have tied up the signings of Dan Smith and Dyron Daal.

The signings are subject to the results of medicals that the players have undertaken at Pittodrie, says Sky Sports News.

The two new arrivals will finally end Dons gaffer Jimmy Calderwood's summer searches for cover up front and in the troublesome left-back slot.

Calderwood said: "Dan and Dyron went through medicals and if they check out I'd expect to complete both signings before the weekend.

"Dan had the respect of his new team-mates straight away as they could see from what he has been doing on the training ground that he can play.

"With Richie Byrne out at the moment and Michael Hart and Karim Touzani picking up injuries in training we need cover at the back."

FORMER Dons boss Jocky Scott had this to say about new signing Dan Smith in the Daily Record:

"Dan was a youth player at Sunderland when I was there yet still made a few appearances for the reserve team.

"That was a massive step up for a 16-year-old but he coped very well.

"He's a good athlete with lots of pace. He'll run all day if need be and is strong on his left side.

"At that time I rated him as a very promising type who had the chance to go on and play in The Premiership because of his attitude and speed.

"There is no reason why he cannot build a career in the SPL."
