MARK FOTHERINGHAM is looking for a move back to the SPL from Swiss Super League side Aarau, and FansFC.com has suggested that Aberdeen and Hibernian are leading the chase to sign the 23-year-old midfielder.

The official Aarau website says that Fotheringham is attempting to negotiate a release from his year-long contract  as he wishes to move back to Scotland for personal reasons.

Fotheringham played for Celtic and Dundee before signing for Bundesliga 2 side Freiberg. He moved to Aarau in 2006 after failing to land a contract at Southampton where he had been on trial.

He said: "I loved every minute of my time abroad and I'm fitter than I ever was

"I was home over the festive period watching a few SPL games and that left me determined to come back and play here.

"It's a big thing for me to try to break into the international set-up, especially with the Euro 2008 qualifiers about to resume.

"I believe I'm good enough to make the step and being back in the spotlight here would help to impress the new Scotland manager.

"It's a very exciting time for Scotland with all the changes taking place and hopefully I can play my part."
