Jimmy Uses The Loyalty Card

JIMMY CALDERWOOD believes that Russell Anderson's loyalty could be key to whether the Aberdeen captain stays at the club or not.

Tha Dons gaffer is keen to hold on to his skipper in the January transfer window despite stories of interest from clubs including Aston Villa and Rangers.

Calderwood told the Daily Record: "The bonus for us is that it is his testimonial season.

"He is loyal and passionate about Aberdeen which would be a factor in our favour if anything does materialise.

"Russell is the last player we would want to lose. The lad has done brilliantly and has been a huge part of our progress."

Calderwood fears a number of clubs may move for Anderson when the transfer window reopens in January.

The club revealed a loss of over £1.5 million this financial year, and could struggle to reject a big-money offer for Scottish international Anderson.

"Every player has his price but our directors are good people who are helping us build a side - not break one up

"So far there hasn't been a single offer for him and I hope it stays that way. He is such a vital part of the team and it would be a massive blow if we lost him."
