May Sign For The Dons

CLUBLESS full-back Alan Maybury may be set to return to the Dons.

The former Leeds and Hearts player has been fruitlessly punted around numerous clubs during the summer by his agent in search of a lucrative contract.

Aberdeen-Mad has been aware for a number of weeks that Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood was biding his time over Maybury during the summer.

And with the right-back having run out of interested clubs, it seems that Calderwood is ready to pounce to snap up the unattached player after he admitted having Maybury still in his thoughts.

And today Maybury revealed that he could indeed return. He told a local newspaper: "I've not spoken to my agent for a few days but we're waiting to hear back from a few clubs and my situation should be clearer by the end of the week.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Aberdeen but I'm not sure if Jimmy Calderwood is still interested.

"They wanted a definite answer during the summer and I was waiting on word back from a number of different things so decided to hold off.

"But if Aberdeen did come back in for me then it's something I would seriously consider."

However, Aberdeen will not be increasing their contract offer to Maybury, who performed fairly well in patches while on loan last season, and have Dutch trialist Quido Lanzaat waiting in the wings.

Dutch defender Lanzaat has been training with the Dons in the past week and is available on loan from Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia.

Calderwood is finalising his plans before next week's transfer deadline, and he said: "I'd expect to have at least two players, maybe three, before the window closes."

"We are just fine-tuning things at the moment regarding which positions we want to fill.

"There are choices to be made about whether we move for two defenders or one defender and an attacking player or more.

"Quido Lanzaat is still in our thoughts. He did really well during his trial last week and is available on loan from CSKA Sofia.

"He is a good footballer and didn't do himself any harm, but it depends which way we want to go."
