Russ A Doubt For Scotland

ABERDEEN captain Russell Anderson is a major doubt for Scotland's Euro 2008 double header against France and Ukraine.

The centre-half limped off in the defeat to Rangers at Ibrox yesterday and will be checked out by the Pittodrie medical staff today.

Anderson has been taking pain killing injections recently because of a troublesome hip injury, but was forced to leave the field in the 56th minute on Sunday.

Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood said: "Russell must be a big doubt for Scotland as the lad never comes off, but he has had a problem with his hip lately and at half time it went into spasm."

Scotland manager Walter Smith told the Aberdeen Evening Express: "I don't know whether Russell will have to be withdrawn from consideration against France, but there's a worry after he was forced to go off.

"It's disappointing to lose anyone at any stage but if Russell does have to drop out that will leave us two defenders down."
