Young Aberdeen striker Chris 'Phil' Maguire has signed an extension to his contract that sees him remain at Pittodrie for at least the next three years.

The 17-year-old made an immediate impact on his first team debut when he came on as a substitute against Celtic in the last game of the season, and has had fans talking about him in terms not used since the emergence of Eoin Jess and Scott Booth.

The Bellshill lad is delighted to pledge his future to the Dons, and he told RedWeb: "I'm really settled in the area and at the club and at this stage of my career, this is the best place for my development.

"Having had a taste of top team action, I want more and although I'm still very young, I'm determined to show the manager that I'm capable of playing at that level."

Aberdeen Legend and Director of Football Willie Miller added. "We're all extremely pleased that Chris is staying here.

"He is one of the hottest prospects in Scottish football and you could see by the crowd's reaction to his performance in the Celtic match that they are as aware as we are that he has the potential to be something special.

"Chris's signing also underlines our intentions for the future which is to develop our young talent at the Club to the point where they are first team regulars and hopefully attracting the attentions of the national team."
