Aberdeen's reserves were pumped by Motherwell at Montrose yesterday afternoon, giving Celtic the advantage at the top of the SPL reserve league.

Sandy Clark's charges drop to second with Celtic defeating Livingston 3-2, three points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

But the heavy defeat has also handed Celtic a healthy goal difference advantage; the Dons on +13 and Celtic on +18.

After a scoreless first period, the Dons conceded two in four minutes in similar fashion to the game at Celktic Park three weeks ago. Connolly tapped in from close range in 52 minutes and Clarkson to fire home in 56.

With a couple of minutes remaining McGarry finished the young Dons off. Motherwell survived two strong penalty claims for the Dons when Budgie Stewart was bundled over by Smith, but overall the Lanarkshire club merited their win.

Dons: Kelly, Thomson (McInnes 57), Donald, Skinner, Considine, Thomas (Kiely 67), Macaulay, Bagshaw, Stewart, Griffin, Maguire. Subs: Langfield, McVittie, Neill.
