Windae 2008 And The January Privit

Last updated : 11 January 2008 By Stand Free Ed

Ah yes: cometh the bells, cometh the transfer windae.

I've really nae got much to add to what Fred said earlier in the week about our so called 'Contract Rebels'. Mainly cos one of the first rules of fitba management (according to Fergie) is that you should rebuild yer side every 3-4 years to stop complacency and staleness developing.

Giving we've now had 3 years of pretty much the same squad it is about time that Calderwood started building his second side and luckily for us there's almost no former Pars player left for him to sign.

Yes I'll miss Mickey, Chris and especially Barry Nic, whose goal against Hearts last May was the defining moment of 2007 for us, as from it sprang all the other defining moments of 2007...imagine if you will what life would have been like if he'd missed or Gordon had got a hand to it...frightening stuff!

But players have always moved on and always will, take 1984 for example - we lost McGhee, Strachan and Rougvie but we replaced them well and actually came back stronger and built a side that got us to the last 8 of the European Cup two years later...yes, yes, I know Tango is no Fergie but the general principle remains the same.

Personally I cannae beleive the negativity of some posters on the messageboard regarding these player leaving and even more by some of them swallowing the Cuprinol Coated Buffoon's comments about the club and board lacking ambition - 'if having the biggest non-OF budget is showing a lack of ambition Mr Calderwood kindly f*ck off now ye erse' is my response to that.

Ah, but we won't replace the players we have lost, they claim. Well, we'll see, but personally I see little point in splashing out in the January window as most of the players available are either pish or stroppy disruptive gits. I'd rather we took in a couple of loan signings (with the option to sign) till the summer and then using the UEFA bounty to rebuild in the summer.

Looks like Mickey and Chris are for the off, again I'm nae that worried...after all we've managed to survive without a recognised right back when Mickey was crocked for the entire season a few years back, as I mentioned above we could pick up a loan signing and given we can offer a trip to Munich we'll for once be an attractive proposition for both clubs and players.

Anyway once the silly season has passed what about the fitba this month? Well it's really the cup games that are the crucial ones this month, lose them both and the season becomes about mundane league business, but do well and the world's our oyster.

So ye ken the format...I give a random prediction based on nothing more than a hunch, you reply via the messageboard. Alrighty, shall we begin?

Scottish Cup - Falkirk (A)

Falkirk, until this season, were games you'd put down as a win regardless of how we're playing as no club other than Cannaebeatus Thistle has a worse record against us...okay, so they're nae beating us but we've huffed and puffed to a couple of draws this year...same again I think tomorra with a score draw and then us winning the replay by the odd goal in three.

Tin Pot Cup - Pikey Chunts (N)

A trip to the Pink Bus Shelter to take on Harry Potter and his Gruesome Uglies. Well, we finally laid the Levein hex in November and the wheels have, well, nae come off their league campaign but there looking a shooglie of late. Probably a dreadful game as semis normally are right through extra time and then flip a coin to decide the winner on pens...er 1-1 and then us 4-2 in the shootout I reckon.

SPL

Pikey Bassas (A)

Ok so nae in chronilogical order but next week we travel to Pikeyville...we're dire on the road these days so I'll hold back fae predicting a win and say 1-1 in a dull game.

Lithuanian State Circus (H)

Should be a bumper crowd...well in the home sections anyway, as if the LSC bring less than a thousand when they're challenging for the league they'll never bring that many when they're in a relegation dog fight with Smurn and the village team and we've got Bayern vouchers to collect. We should win but, well, ye ken Tactical Tombola's n'at but sod it I'm going for a 2-0 home win with a Lovigol double.

So there ye go - scrape through in the cups and probaly par for the SPL games...nae a month that will live long in the memory but one that could give us some days to remember in the long run.

Stand Free etc etc,
