Aberdeen-Mad invades the Scotsman

ABERDEEN

A month ago I wrote in the Scotsman's pages that the clock was ticking for Mark McGhee, and last week the alarm went off. The board gets respect for giving him one last chance, but three defeats since he was publicly supported correctly and sadly meant the end. Thanks Mark – you can go back to being a playing legend again.

So who next? Scarcely can I remember a time when there has been fewer outstanding candidates for the job, and the bookies’ list has precious little to fire the imagination.

However, often it is the more uninspiring bosses who do a good job – few Dons fans mooted Craig Brown or Jim Jefferies the last time the Dons job was available, and look where their teams are now. But whoever it is, they must get some financial backing in January, or the managerial rotation shall be a pointless exercise once more.
