ABERDEEN

There seems to be a conspiracy this season to keep Aberdeen just within touching distance of having something to play for.

It doesn't seem to matter how good or bad our results are (and they're mostly bad), there are still possibilities of both sneaking into the top six and flirting with a relegation battle thanks to other teams' erratic results.

In a lot of ways, these 'goals' (such as they are) are a distraction. It would arguably be better if we categorically had nothing to play for so McGhee can treat every game as an opportunity to blood youngsters and impart his tactical philosophy.

Sadly, it looks like the much-talked-about 'meaningless fixtures' brought about by league expansion will come a few years too late for us...
