ABERDEEN

SO, WELL done to Setanta for stepping in to screen the second leg of the Bayern tie. It's just a pity a sports subscription channel is doing what our own public service broadcaster should have been doing in the first place.

BBC Strathclyde's excuses/reason for not showing the game were, quite frankly, pathetic.

For a start the "overlapping kick-off times" one just doesn't add up in these Red Button days. If they can simultaneously broadcast two games from Africa why not two from mainland Europe? And as for "We've shown Aberdeen seven times and Rangers four", is that not because their games were on ITV/Sky and the Beeb doesn't have Champions League rights?

The "West Coast Bias" has been part of the Red Army's mythology since Fergie's time and in the main it's just paranoia, but at times like these it makes you wonder.

If I did actually pay my TV licence, then I'd seriously consider withholding it as a form of protest.
