ABERDEEN

Before Saturday, it was our appearance in a UEFA Cup Semi Final in a comic strip that was attracting most interest from Dons fans.

As it was we lost 2-1 to Warbury in the first leg with Miller grabbing the crucial away goal but some 'sloppy' defending from Zander leading to both their goals.

The consensus was if Calderwood failed to win the home leg then after three semi final defeats in a season his position would be untenable.

Despite this, on a glorious Spring Saturday the real life football was far more satisfying as we easily cruised past an absolutely woeful Hibs side. Press reports suggest that we were lucky and Hibs threw away the game.

What nonsense! The reality was we dominated the game from start to finish and if it hadn't been for yet more 'sloppy' defending from Zander, Hibs would have contributed nothing to the game but red cards.

The more cynical amongst us would suggest that this upturn in fortune was due to the absence of our esteemed Tactical Genius throwing abuse at the players from the sidelines and as a result the players relaxed and played as we know they can.

Quite why our manager and not one of his assistants was away on holiday...sorry a 'Scouting Mission' in Europe hasn't been properly explained, but if we win our next two games against United and Well then there is still a chance we could nip in and steal the UEFA Cup slot.

So we were wondering...is there any chance Calderwood could be sent scouting for, say...oh...the next month?

Rumour is there are some players who'd 'kick their grannies' and 'are great to have around the place' playing for Basra Boys Club, Kabul Kickers and Ulan Bator United who are worth a look.

So don't hurry back Jimmy, you've not been missed and we're doing fine without you.
