Aberdeen's striker search took an unexpected twist this week. The Dons have turned their attention towards Anfield, the home of Champions League winners Liverpool, after it was revealed yesterday that Kilmarnock have accepted a bid of about £500,000 from Cardiff City for Kris Boyd.

Boyd has made it no secret that he wishes to leave the Ayrshire club, and had previously shown an interest in moving to Pittodrie. However, Killie were always waiting for silly money for the uncapped striker and happily for them Cardiff have obliged.

Dons now hope to sign French forward Florent Sinama-Pongolle on loan from Liverpool. The young striker is around 5th in the pecking order for Liverpool's frontline, and that could be made worse if the Scousers make an expected move to bring back one-trick striker Michael Owen to his Mersey Paradise.
