Aberdeen Striker Goes To Stockport

Michael Paton has completed a loan move to Stockport County.

The Dons striker will stay at the Conference side, who are managed by former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann, until early January.

Hamann was alerted to Paton's availability by assistant manager at Edgeley Park, former Ross County boss Willie McStay.

The 22-year-old has been with Aberdeen as a professional since 2005. After making his debut in December 2008 Paton has gone on to make 57 appearances and has scored 6 goals for the Dons.

Paton previously had two loan spells at Brechin City, but refused to go on loan to Dundee last year.

On Tuesday, Dons boss Craig Brown announced that Paton would be available to leave Aberdeen on a free transfer, but not a single team was interested in taking the striker.

It is thought that Aberdeen are paying part of Paton's wages while he is on loan, in order to seal the transfer - which will save the club money in the long run as they will not have to pay up his existing contract.
