Aluko Continues Dons Comeback With Under-19s

DONS winger Sone Aluko has been lined up to prove his form and fitness in an Under-19s game for the Dons tonight.

Neil Cooper takes his team to play Junior side Banchory St Ternan at Milton Park, Crathes, near Banchory at 7.15pm this evening.

And Dons boss Mark McGhee confirmed at lunchtime that Sone Aluko will hopefully join up with Cooper's talented youngsters and might play at some point to give him some match action.

Aluko has not featured at all during the Dons' pre-season matches, and is in danger of being overlooked as McGhee brings in numerous new faces to the Reds' squad over summer.

With McGhee declaring publicly that young players will be put on loan to lighten the wage bill to fund a move for Grant Basey, it could be that Aluko is top of the list to spend six months at another club because of his 'former EPL club' kudos and wages that are likely to be higher than the average 21-year-old on the Dons' books.

The young Anglo-Nigerian forward made a big impression while on loan at the Dons, scoring against Bayern Munich in 2008 and thrilling fans with some delightfully skilful performances.

But Aluko failed to live up to that promise in the subsequent seasons under two different managers, although his time at Pittodrie as a full-time Dons player has been punctuated by spells of injury as well as loss of form.

Now in the final year of his contact, the next few weeks could be make-or-break for Sone as Aberdeen look to recover from a dire year-and-a-half's football and start afresh for the new season.
