And Peter Weir Makes It Four...

Aberdeen today welcome back another Gothenburg legend as Peter Weir rejoins the club as youth scout for the central belt region.

Peter Weir had been latterly working in a similar capacity for Rangers, but the opportunity to rejoin the Pittodrie camp was one that was too good to turn down.

Weir told RedWeb: "I had a great time at Ibrox but my heart has always been with Aberdeen and being given the chance to develop things in Central Scotland was simply one I couldn't resist.

"My remit will be to look after all aspects of youth development including players, scouting, identification of improved facilities and ensuring we have the top quality coaches in place that are required if you are breeding top quality players."

Weir was a member of the Aberdeen team in the 1980s that dominated Scottish football, with his finest hour surely in Gothenburg when he was the class of the field against Real Madrid's galaxy of stars.

His final high point at the club came almost 20 years ago exactly, when he ran Walter Kidd and the rest of the Hearts team ragged in the 1986 Scottish Cup final, helping the Dons to a 3-0 win.

Len Taylor, Head of Youth Development and Community at Pittodrie, is delighted that the 48 year-old is back at the Dons.

He said: "It's a fantastic piece of business by the Club and I'm certain I speak for Dons supporters everywhere in welcoming Peter back with open arms.

"As a Club, we have already recognised that, while we are doing a superb job in the Glasgow and Edinburgh areas, we need to increase the size of the operation there in order to bring more youngsters through.

"Consequently, having someone of Peter's calibre to spearhead the operation will ensure progress is made as quickly and efficiently as possible.

"With Willie Miller, Jim Leighton, Neil Simpson and John McMaster already at Aberdeen, we now have five of the team that gave us the greatest moment in the Club's history back in the fold, which can be no bad thing!"

The news comes the day after Aberdeen's U19s narrowly lost out to their Celtic counterparts in the Scottish Youth Cup semi-final.
