Captain Feelgood

DONS captain Paul Hartley believes restoring the feelgood factor has been the key component in the instant turnaround achieved by Craig Brown and Archie Knox.

The management team have already accumulated more points in two games in charge than the club managed in the previous 14 Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches.

Scott Vernon followed up his Boxing Day winner at Easter Road by netting the only goal at New Douglas Park in stoppage time on Wednesday to move Aberdeen six points above bottom club Hamilton.

Brown and assistant Knox guided Motherwell to a 12-match unbeaten run in the SPL after lifting the spirits when they took over at Fir Park a year ago.

Although Hartley is not getting carried away ahead of the New Year's Day derby against Dundee United, he feels the veteran pair have already changed the atmosphere at Pittodrie.

The Scotland midfielder said: "Obviously they are two of the most experienced people in the game.

"We're enjoying training. We're working really hard. We're really organised. We know our jobs. They have just made everything really enjoyable.

"You have got to play with a smile on your face - that's the first thing. But the effort and attitude of the lads and work-rate is all there.

"It's only two games. We're not going to get carried away because we did that at the start of the season but it's a good start."
