Dons Reserves Beat Dundee

After hammering Dundee United reserves 4-0 last week, Aberdeen's reserves dished out a beating to their city counterparts this afternoon. Attacking midfielder Gary Dempsey, who made his debut for the first team against rangers last week, scored the winning goal as Aberdeen's second string narrowly defeated Dundee 2-1 in the SPL Reserve League. Jamie Winter scored and had a good game in the Links Park encounter, and newly transfer listed back-up 'keeper David Preece pulled off several good saves which will hopefully have impressed any onlooking scouts.

The Dons took the lead after a quarter of an hour when Dundee keeper Kelvin Jack punched a corner clear only as far as Winter, who took one touch before crashing the ball into the net. Aberdeen had the lion's share of the opening period and could have had the outcome done and dusted had the departing Lubomir Blaha and Steven Craig not scorned good opportunities to extend their advantage, along with youngster John Stewart. These misses proved costly on the stroke of the interval when Glenn Atle Larsen equalised from close range. That's how it stayed until twenty minutes from the end, a Blaha shot was blocked by Jack and the ball fell to Dempsey who was first to follow up and drive the ball home.

Aberdeen team: Preece, Donald, Morrison, Winter, McGuire, Thomson, Stewart (Kiely 70), Adams, Blaha, Craig, Dempsey. Subs not used : Kelly, Macaulay, McInnes, O'Leary.
