Aberdeen have signed Middlesbrough midfielder Josh Walker on loan until the end of the season.

The 18 year old graduate of the Riverside club's youth academy, has captained England's Under 16 and Under 17 teams.

He made his Middlesbrough first team debut against Carlisle United in July 2005 and his first competitive start against Fulham in May of the following year. Last season he spent one month on loan at AFC Bournemouth.

A spokesman for AFC said: "Walker goes straight into the squad for tonight's CIS semi-final against Dundee United at Tynecastle. He has been given squad number 27."

Meanwhile, another player with experience of the English game has been watched by Aberdeen scouts.

23-year-old Ayr United midfielder Ryan Stevenson, a former Chelsea trainee who has also attracted interest from Kilmarnock, has been a star performer for the struggling Second Division side.

Ayr manager Brian Reid said: "I know two or three clubs are watching Ryan but we have not had any offers."
