Dons Youngsters Star For Scotland

FOUR Aberdeen players were involved and two scored as Scotland U17s had an impressive 4-1 victory over Malta on Monday.

The Scots youngsters started off their UEFA Under-17 Elite round preparations with the first of two matches against the Maltese at the National Training Centre in Malta.

It took the young Scots only four minutes to open the scoring when a great through pass from the captain Scott Smith sent the Dons' Callum McRobbie clear and his clinical finish left the Maltese goalkeeper with no chance.

Jamie Pollock scored an excellent goal on 37 minutes when a great three-man move involving Max Wright, McRobbie and Mitchel Megginson gave Pollock the chance to blast the ball home from 15 yards.

And a minute later Scotland scored again through Aberdeen kid Megginson. The player, making his Scotland debut, made sure from close range after the Maltese could not hold a shot from Gordon Dick.

Making up the quartet of Dons was Nicky Low and Fraser Fyvie, the latter coming on as a second-half sub. Another Dons youngster, Ryan Jack, is also likely to have been involved but is currently injured.

The wealth of Dons talent at this level is more proof of the positive effect of the changes brought into AFC's youth set-up by Head of Youth Development Lenny Taylor, including clearing out the dead wood at the club and the creation of the Aberdeen Football Club Youth Academy in June 2006.
