IS this 'New Pittodrie'? It could be, if these exclusive pictures of an architect's plans for Aberdeen's new stadium beat the red tape.

'Pittodrie 2' has been created as a 21st Century sporting landscape on Aberdeen's King's Links by Edinburgh-based architects John Thompson & Partners.

The company has many clients up and down the country including a number of local authorities.

The immediate area surrounding the new stadium, shown in images 1 and 2, could contain a hotel, car parks, and an innovative communications structure believed to include a new tramway. Also pictured is 'Pittodrie Village', a modern living space with underground car parks and park areas.

Also part of the ambitious plans is a Regional Sports Facility, as seen in images 3 and 4. This contains a number of football pitches and stadium with running track, and a cricket ground and pavilion is planned near the Community Stadium.

Whether these plans come to fruition or not, Dons fans will hope to hear news from the club and Aberdeen City Council concerning the new stadium within the coming weeks.
