Dons winger Ricky Foster has put pen to paper on a new deal that ties him to the club until 2008.

Foster, who has been selected for the Scotland U21 squad that plays Northern Ireland and Turkey next month, has progressed in the last year and Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood had no hesitation in offering him the new deal.

The 20-year-old winger has featured mainly from the bench this season, most memorably to perform an astonishing man-marking job on Thomas Buffel in the 2-0 win over Rangers at Pittodrie this year.

This led to the youngster starting the 1-1 draw at Ibrox two weeks ago, and Foz is determined to become a regular in the Dons' first team next season.

He told the Evening Express: "It's a real weight off my mind and a big relief as you are always looking for that extra bit of security."

"Signing means I can focus on winning a permanent place in the team next season.

"I'm determined to do all I can to hold down a regular position in the side but it's hard with the squad of players we've got here."

Foster is joined by Kyle Macaulay in signing a new deal with the club. The elegant midfielder, who has had a smattering of first-team appearances this term, has been given a 12-month contract.

Macaulay will look to emulate Foster, who was given a similar deal last season in order to prove his worth to the team.
