Aberdeen have completed the signing of former Stockport County player Danny Griffin until the end of the season.

First reported on Aberdeen-Mad in this story (click here), Griffin's move has had endless complications due to the injury problems he has suffered in the last three years.

The 29-times-capped Northern Ireland midfielder, who had terminated his contract with County, said: "It was encouraging to know that Jimmy Calderwood had been keeping tabs on me and, while it's no secret I've had my problems with injuries in the past, they are now behind me.

"I'm just looking forward to enjoying my football again and doing enough to show the manager that I'm deserving of a longer deal."

Dons gaffer Calderwood said: "I've always liked him as a player, he's got two good feet, tenacious in the tackle and he's versatile, being equally comfortable at right back, centre half or centre midfield.

When we looked at him in the summer, I listened to what our medical people had to say and told him to go and get himself fit. All credit to him for doing just that and while the initial deal is a short one because of his past injuries, all being well we'll be sitting down talking about a longer contract towards the end of the season. I spoke to the likes of Alex Smith and Sammy McIlroy about Danny and everything they told me was positive."

Griffin played under Aberdeen reserve team manager Sandy Clark at St. Johnstone. He could make his Dons debut in next weekend's Tennent's Scottish Cup 3rd round clash against his former club at Tannadice.
