Aberdeen's Dutch tour kicked off last weekend with a 0-0 draw against SVZW Wierden and a 4-1 win at SV Babberich. The Dons had two trialists involved in the games, and both were still with the team at the beginning of the week, training with the rest of the squad.

Senegalese striker Noel Mendy played in both the games, and he was joined for first half of the Babberich game by amateur Dutch attacking midfielder Rob Haveman.

Jimmy was happy enough with the midfield despite Haveman's lack of fitness, telling RedWeb: "He did well. We will have another look at him during the week and we might keep Mendy with us for a few days depending how our injury situation is."

Aberdeen dominated a typically dour pre-season draw with Wierden, but made up for it with a comfortable victory against Babberich. Left-back Ritchie Byrne continued his Brian Irvine-esque goalscoring form by giving the Dons the lead after only two minutes with a superb volley. This was the Ulsterman's third goal of the pre-season, to add to his three goals scored from full-back last season, and if he continues this form he will surely win over the Dons fans that are still doubtful of his talents.

The second goal came after 53 minutes when Jamie Smith and John Stewart combined to set up Derek Adams to double the Dons' tally. Just after the hour mark Aberdeen got their third goal courtesy of an own goal and Stewart got number four.

Meanwhile, Jimmy has still not given up hope of signing Polish striker Piotr Wlodarczyk. The Pole impressed last week in games against Montrose and Fraserburgh, scoring 4 goals. Talks with the player and his club will continue over the next couple of days.
