McCormack: Pittodrie As Bad As Fir Park

MOTHERWELL and Scotland Under-21 striker Ross McCormack believes the Pittodrie pitch is as bad as the much-maligned Fir Park surface.

McCormack was instrumental in the Scotland side's impressive 2-1 victory over Finland's Under-21s at the Dons' home ground last night.

The problems caused by Aberdeen's threadbare surface may not be as severe as at Fir Park, where Motherwell and their tenants Gretna have been forced to endure numerous postponements due to a combination of heavy rainfall and poor drainage.

But, despite Aberdeen having to cancel no games at all this season, McCormack insists it is just as difficult to play at Pittodrie as on his club's own (cabbage) patch.

He said: "To be honest that pitch is probably just as bad as Motherwell's one.

"But you've still got to make the most of it and get the ball down and pass it.

"It is quite hard to pass on and you can see there are a few bobbles going about. I thought both teams dealt with it quite well."

Earlier this week Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood tried to blame the Pittodrie playing surface for Aberdeen's poor results this season.

This is despite the Dons having the fifth-best home record in the SPL this season, and only the ninth-best away record in the division - a clear sign that poor away results have left the Dons in the bottom six.

And Dons defender Andy Considine said yesterday that it is unfair to blame the pitch for results, and that it is the same for both teams.
