McInnes Determined To Win Over Aberdeen Fans

There has been a low-key response to news of the former St Johnstone manager's appointment, with some internet trolls dismissing McInnes outright due to his playing around 50 games for Rangers and defending the Newco in an interview this year.

But even the more broad-minded majority of Aberdeen fans are showing signs of requiring to be convinced of the 41-year-old’s merits, due to his inexperience and failure in his most recent job at Bristol City.

But McInnes is aware of the task at hand and believes it is only a matter of time before he gets the Dons support onside.

He said: "Any manager has to win over the fans. I wasn’t the favourite for the St Johnstone job – I’m sure the fans wanted someone else.

"But I’m sure they would have recognised the job I had done by the time I left. It’s about putting a team on the pitch which is an extension of me and them.

"All fans want a winning team and we will try to deliver one."

He added: "This is the only job I have applied for since I left my last position and it is a challenge that excites me.

"I’m proud to be manager of a club with such respected traditions for what it has achieved in the past. It is up to me to make the team respected on the pitch."
