Miller Bid Accepted

Bristol City have agreed a fee with Aberdeen and Hearts for their striker Lee Miller. It is now up to Miller to decide which club to join, and therefore it is likely that it will come down to money.

The 22-year-old former Falkirk striker has already been involved in a prolongated transfer saga concerning the Dons, when he originally ended up plumping for life in the English lower leagues. Since then though Miller has scored 11 goals in 21 games for Hearts during a loan spell at the Edinburgh club, helping them secure 5th place in the SPL and earning himself a call-up to the full Scotland squad.

Bristol City chief executive Colin Sexstone told BBC Radio Bristol: "The two bids are broadly similar and are acceptable to Bristol City. We've given both clubs permission to talk personal terms with Lee, and it's up to him to decide where he goes. There is an upfront guaranteed payment, and then another 50% of the total sum which will be performance related on quite a range of things, some of which will occur, some maybe not. We will have got back the majority of our investment over the next year or so and we wish Lee all the best."

Dons legend and director of football Willie Miller had warned this week that, "we won't be held to ransom for the simple reason we don't have the funds. We've got to do the best for Aberdeen, but we do have limited resources. We are not going to put all our eggs into one basket and sign just one player. "We have some money available, but we want to bring in other players to improve the side. We have got other options and we will cross Lee Miller off the list if need be."

Willie's sage comments are creditable, and Stand Free agrees that Lee Miller would be a welcome addition to the Dons squad, but he is by no means the be-all and end-all of the summer transfers. The Dons have plenty alternatives available, with Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd and Dundee hitman Steven Lovell still being tracked.
