Miller Guarantees New Forward

Aberdeen legend and Director of Football Willie Miller has assured the frustrated Dons supporters there will be a new striker in the Pittodrie ranks before the start of the Bank of Scotland Premier League season. Steve Lovell of Dundee and Kilmarnock's Kris Boyd have both been targets of the Dons this summer, but no deal has yet been done after weeks of negotiations that started before last season had even finished.

But, after bringing midfielders Jamie Smith and Barry Nicholson and goalkeeper Jamie Langfield to the club, God maintains a new forward is still a priority.

Miller told the Evening Express: "We will get a striker in before the season starts, there's no doubt about that, and our search is continuing. We are confident of that and we are pleased with the players we have got on board. We will get a forward in before the season starts at the end of next month. There are plenty of options for us on the striker front but we have to be patient before we can get players in. We still have plenty of time to achieve that."

Meanwhile, the Aberdeen players have started pre-season training today after their summer break, and there are reports that they have been joined by out-of-contract pair Danny Griffin and Eoin Jess. Griffin is desperate to prove his injury nightmare is over in order to to secure a deal at Pittodrie, while Jess is keeping up his fitness as he attempts to find a club before the new season starts.
