There are reports today that Jimmy Calderwood has made a bid for a striker, possibly based in England. Calderwood has stated since January that he wants to bring in two new strikers, and of greater quality and less injury-prone than last season's striking acquisitions Fernando Pasquinelli and Noel Whelan. The chase is now on to get them in before the Dons first team travel to Holland on Friday.

Jimmy told the Evening Express: "There is a striker I know and want, and it is now just a matter of pushing the deal through. We tried our best with Lovell but we have moved on and have made a bid for another striker. I can't say who it is at the moment because the deal is complicated and there is still some doubt over whether his club will let him go. But I'm confident things will now be done quickly."

This striker may be former Preston, Celtic and Scotland U-21 forward Simon Lynch, who is currently without a club. There are also rumours that controversial Morroccan striker Hassan Kachloul, also currently clubless, may be a target for the Dons.

There is still a belief here that Kris Boyd may yet be tempted from Kilmarnock, but it is good to hear that Jimmy now has more options than the Lovell/Boyd duo who have provided plenty of newspaper copy but not much action this summer.
