Aberdeen gaffer Brown has puzzled many fans during previous transfer windows by bringing in the likes of Daniel Uchechi, Nick Blackman and Mohamed Chalali.
But this January there should be no need for panic buys thanks to the production line of talent being brought through the revitalised Pittodrie youth system.
Initiated by Willie Miller and Len Taylor, the good work behind the scenes at the AFC Youth Academy has been continued by Simmy, Cooper, and recent arrival Jocky Scott - and boss Brown points to the exciting young players coming through the ranks as proof that the future is bright.
“It is good for the club and good for the lads themselves.
“In our previous game against St Johnstone, 10 of the 18 players on duty for us were under 21 – and that was quite exceptional.”
Brown paid tribute to youth development chief Simpson and coach Cooper for their role in producing a conveyor belt of stars.
He said: “The young players who are coming through have been brought on by the two Neils. They are very important guys at Pittodrie.
“When you’re looking for a player to come in, you look over your shoulder and they’ll say: ‘Here’s one.’
“Archie and I watch every Under-19 game and on the basis of how they play we promote them.
“Joe Shaughnessy is an example of that and was outstanding while on his year-long loan at Forfar.”
