Outcast Craig Set For Shrews

Aberdeen striker Steven Craig will be closer to ending his Pittodrie nightmare next week when he joins Shrewsbury Town on trial.

The former Motherwell misfit was released by Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood at the end of the season after an unhappy year with the Dons. Signed by former boss Steve Paterson mere weeks before his departure, Craig has struggled to fit in to Jimmy's plans. His frustration at this led to a silly sending off against Dundee last year, a result of which appeared to be a falling out between the feisty forward and his gaffer.

Despite training with Belgian teams Sint Truiden and Genk, who both wanted to sign the 24-year-old, he chose not to move abroad. Craig is keen on a switch to the Shrews and is waiting for the English League 2 side's manager, Gary Peters, to contact him when he returns from holiday.

Craig told the Press & Journal: "Shrewsbury are really interested and they want me to go down to see if I'll like it there. They want to see me before their players report back for pre-season. I've got another couple of options in England as well, but none as concrete as this. If nothing comes of it, I will report back to Aberdeen for pre-season training as instructed."
