Polish Striker Offered To Dons

Piotr Wlodarczyk could be the latest Pole to join up with a Scottish club following former Don Gordon Strachan's purchase of Maciej Zurawski for Celtic from Wisla Krakow for £2million. Hearts, Hibernian and Dunfermline all currently have players from Poland on trial, and Wlodarczyk is set to join up with the Dons this week, also on trial.

The 28-year-old Legia Warsaw player has four international caps and two goals for his country - the same ratio as Mark McGhee had for Scotland - and would be available on a season-long deal should he impress Dons manager Jimmy Calderwood.

Wlodarczyk is under contract with Legia - who qualified for the Uefa Cup after finishing third in the top flight behind champions Wisla Krakow and Groclin - until the end of the 2008-09 season.

But despite finishing last season as the club's second-highest scorer with 14 goals from 39 matches, Wlodarczyk's future in the Polish capital seems uncertain and he arrived in Aberdeen last night to begin his trial.

Calderwood is planning to have a look at the Pole in this week's friendly fixtures at Montrose and Fraserburgh after being continually frustrated in his attempts to sign Dundee's Steve Lovell and Kilmarnock's Kris Boyd. Leicester have had a bid for Lovell accepted by Dundee, and while the Taysiders have stated that they would accept a similar bid from the Dons, it is unlikely that Aberdeen will be able to afford the wages on offer from the Championship club.
