Former Celtic winger Jamie Smith, who has been released by Den Haag, will sign a two-year deal with Aberdeen this week. Unless there are complications, the deal should be wrapped up on Monday. The 24-year-old Scotland Futures internationalist rejected the chance to remain at Den Haag after a season with the Dutch club.

Smith's agent Mark Donaghy told the Daily Mail: "Paul Lambert wanted Jamie to join him at Livingston and I held some talks with their chief executive. Falkirk were also interested, but Aberdeen have made tremendous progress under Jimmy Calderwood. He is looking forward to coming back to Scottish football, although he did have the option of another two years at Den Haag."

Smith was at Celtic for six years and made 53 appearances for them, mainly as a substitute, and has been involved in Champions League fixtures with the Hoops.
