Aberdeen's defensive problems have abated slightly with the news that Feyenoord defender Ferne Snoyl has been signed on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old left back has moved to Pittodrie after spending last season on loan at Den Bosch, although he has featured in seven first team games at De Kuip this season.

The youngster scored his only goal for Feyenoord against FK Teplice in the 2003/04 UEFA Cup 2nd round.

Snoyl told SkySports: "I am very excited with it. It's a good chance to play again."

Meanwhile Kevin McNaughton may be fit sooner than initially thought after his condition improved over the weekend, and Zander Diamond may be rushed back from injury in time for Saturday's crucial cup tie with Hearts.

Gary Dempsey has also returned from a trial at Doncaster, and may be forced to remain at Pittodrie until the end of the season due to the injury crisis.

Jimmy Calderwood told RedWeb: "Medical staff will monitor him from day to day but if he continues to improve as he has done then he could make it. If Kevin could make it, it would be a massive lift for us ahead of the cup tie.

"Zander is still a doubt and will not be risked tomorrow night in the reserves but he has every chance of being fit for Saturday. Gary has returned from Doncaster and we are waiting to see if they will come in for him or not. We will then need to decided what we want to do."
