ABERDEEN have agreed a deal to take on Dundee keeper Derek Soutar's contract and give him a 12-month extension.

With Ryan Esson leaving the club, the 24-year-old former Scotland Under-21 goalie will battle it out with Jamie Langfield for the Dons' number one jersey.

Soutar, in classic 'thumb aloft' pose, right, passed a medical yesterday and will sign a two-year deal with the club when the transfer window opens on June 9.

Soutar, who celebrates his 25th birthday on Sunday, told the Press & Journal: "Everything was fine with the medical but I cannot sign a contract until next month."

The move up the A96 will see him link up again with former Dens Park striker Stevie "Sniffer" Lovell.

Meanwhile, the Dons should know within the next 24 hours whether Motherwell full-back Steve Hammell will become their second summer signing, and Neil MacFarlane has joined former Dons legend Sir Steven Tosh at Scottish Cup finalists Gretna.
