The 30-year-old striker struck all three goals for the Reds as they beat Dundee Utd 3-1 at Tannadice on Tuesday night.

The former Blackpool striker has found himself playing second-fiddle to January signing Adam Rooney but has returned to the first team due to the Irishman's injury lay-off.

Vernon's treble against United took him to nine goals for the season, but his contract expires at the end of the season and the Englishman is not sure if boss Derek McInnes will extend his four-year Pittodrie stay.

He told RedTV: "I don't know what's happening next year - nothing has been said yet.

"The gaffer has got a few decisions to make with the boys who are out of contract and I'm one of them. I will just have to wait and see."
