Aberdeen's European hopes were given a huge boost thanks to a great 3 -1 win over Dunfermline at Pittodrie.

However, despite the scoreline the Dons had to fight their way back from a goal behind to claim all three points.

Dunfermline's misery was made worse by the sending off of Craig Brewster in the last minute.

The win gives the Dons their first home victory of the season and one which will boost the squad for Tuesday's match in Berlin.

However, Dons boss Ebbe Skovdahl may be forced to travel without striker Laurent D'Jaffo who was forced to retire through injury after putting the Dons ahead.

The Pars had by far the better of the first half but it was not until five minutes before the break that they took the lead.

Steven Hampshire's free-kick from the right was flighted into the box and was neatly stabbed home by Lee Bullen from eight yards out.

Their lead was short-lived however as the Dons levelled matters with the half approaching stoppage time.

Patrizio Billio latched on to Derek Young's downward header and, despite the best efforts of Marco Ruitenbeek, the ball dipped under the bar and trickled over the line.

After the break the match seemed to step up a gear and the Dons grabbed the lead when Darren Mackie's flick was brilliantly hit home by Laurent D'Jaffo.

However, it was the striker's last contribution as he seemed to pick up a knock in the process of scoring.

The result was put beyond doubt as early as the 64th minute when Derek Young sneaked in at the back post to head home after Russell Anderson had neatly touched on an Eric Deloumeaux corner.

However, despite the second half being more entertaining, seven players were booked in it as well as Brewster's red card
