Aberdeen came back down to earth with a bump as they were brushed aside by Livingston at Almondvale.

Just four days after ending Celtic's 77-match unbeaten streak at Parkhead, the injury-hit Aberdeen side were given a lesson in possession football and have now faced the West Lothian side seven times this season without tasting victory.

Aberdeen were simply no match for the experienced home team who, once the outstanding David McNamee fired them ahead in the first half, kept possession and controlled the game before finishing them off with a second half strike.

Markus Heikkinen and Paul Sheerin both fired wide early on before in the sixth minute. Sheerin sent over a diagonal ball to the left, Scott Muirhead headed beyond Rubio and held off the Spaniard's challenges before firing across the face of goal. These were rare glimpses of the Dons as an attacking force and just seconds later, Livi came close when Derek Lilley headed over.

Burton O'Brien should have scored after 13 minutes when Lilley's lay-off was touched on by Colin McMenamin to O'Brien who rounded Scott Morrison but, with a clear shot at goal he fired almost straight at David Preece.

McNamee came close after 23 minutes, driving down the right flank before firing in a low angled shot that Preece did well to save.

A minute later, McNamee did open the scoring. A flowing move started with McAllister on the left and the ball was fed through Lee Makel and Stuart Lovell to McNamee on the right. He cut inside Muirhead and, with the rest of the Dons defence standing off, rifled a left foot drive beyond a despairing Preece.

Deservedly ahead, Livingston were content to keep possession but were almost caught out after 35 minutes when a long ball out of defence deceived Rubio. Muirhead nipped in to cross for Bryan Prunty but the youngster, a scorer against Celtic, saw his low shot blocked by the right hand of Roddy McKenzie and cleared away by Dorado.

Preece had to be at full stretch to deny Marvin Andrews' powerful header after 52 minutes while five minutes later Zdrillic produced a snap-shot after 57 minutes that McKenzie did well to save low down.

But Livingston killed the game after 63 minutes. Lilley crossed from the right and when Preece fumbled at the back post, Lovell scrambled the ball back to O'Brien and, although his shot was blocked, McMenamin had the easiest of chances to fire into an empty net for his fifth of the season.

Zdrillic's deflected shot in the final minute came back off the post with McKenzie but Aberdeen would have barely deserved the consolation strike.
