DONS legend Eric Black is emerging as the favourite to replace outgoing Ebbe Skovdahl as Aberdeen manager.

The 39-year-old, former Motherwell manager, who is currently assistant manager at Coventry City is rumoured to have been approached by the Dons board over the weekend.

Black is said to be keen on a return to the club where he started his career, and enjoyed great success, scoring the opening goal in the Dons' European Cup Winners Cup triumph.

If the Dons can match the compensation Coventry would be looking for, then Black could be installed as Dons manager before Saturday's match, ironically against his former club - Motherwell.

Black would take George Adams with him as his assistant.
