Dempsey And Snoyl Next Out The Door

DANNY Griffin and Neil MacFarlane have been told they will not be offered extended contracts at Pittodrie, and Gary Dempsey and Ferne Snoyl may have joined them by the end of the week.

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood finally bought Northern Ireland international Danny Griffin on a free contract from Stockport after a year chasing him in the January transfer window.

MacFarlane was snapped up after being released by Hearts at around the same time as Calderwood continued his search for a replacement for Markus Heikkinen to partner Scott Severin in midfield.

Neither player has started for the Dons in the last two months as a good run of form led the team to a Top 6 berth.

Dons gaffer Calderwood told the Daily Record: "I've told Danny and Neil they will not be offered new contracts.

"It was a tough decision because both are excellent professionals who did everything asked of them in their time here.

"Because of our financial situation, I need to get players out before bringing new ones in to freshen up the squad over the next few weeks.

"I also have youngsters such as Andy Considine, David Donald and Kyle Macaulay knocking on the first-team door and they'll get their chance next season."

Calderwood revealed that more players will be shown the door later this week in order to begin rebuilding for next season.

Gary Dempsey and Ferne Snoyl are likely to be the next out despite featuring regularly in the first-team recently. However, Dempsey has only recently begun to show some form, while Snoyl has tailed off after an explosive start to his short Pittodrie career.

Jimmy said: "Gary was disappointed at being out the team but he has since come back and done very well. But I can't guarantee him regular first-team football so he has a decision to make.

"I also need to know what Feyenoord are going to do with Snoyl but if a fee is asked then there is no chance of a permanent deal."

**A poll on Aberdeen-Mad currently has 80% of Dons fans wanting Griffin to stay and just under half would like to see MacFarlane at the Dons next season.
